ST:  Do you have any pointers for a new "legend tripper" looking to explore sites that may be difficult to reach or that may be on privately owned property?

MB:  First and foremost, I would plead with legend trippers to respect the places they visit. The vandalism that too often occurs at legendary sites is deplorable and unnecessary. Certainly, if a site is on private property, one needs to get the owner's permission for a visit. My advice is to be honest, sincere and respectful. The places of legend deserve the same consideration that historical sites are given. They may not have monuments and markers designating them as important places, but they are likely to be meaningful within their own communities. Outsiders who go in and desecrate, vandalize or mock such places are foolish. Take your camera--but leave the spray paint at home.
